I mostly use yacon syrup as a sweetener for tea. It has a nutty taste by itself but all you notice is the sweetness in the tea. I haven't tried other brands, so I can't speak to the comparative taste. It is a little thinner than honey and is the same color as the bottle. It dissolves immediately in hot tea, and there isn't a bunch left after I finish the cup. I like and will be repurchasing this product.
HOWEVER, and a big however, I gave this four stars because I have adapted its use for other purposes. I didn't realize before purchase that Yacon Syrup is also a PREbiotic, which I find notoriously hard to work into my diet because I hate the taste of fermented anything, loathe bananas, and my husband refuses to eat artichokes or asparagus. So, I pour a little of this in my coffee, over my waffles, or in my oatmeal virtually everyday. The bottle does say heating it removes its prebiotic properties, so I take care not to use it until my coffee and oatmeal cool a bit.
What disappointed me was after researching, I found that it had to have a fructooligosaccharides level of at least 32% or so and no fillers. Organic, certified or not, there are no labels on the bottle to tell the percentage or what fillers that it has, which is very important. I have yet to receive an answer from the supplier for these questions.
This stuff is pricey, so if the intent is for probiotic or weightloss, I think there are better ways to invest your money to be sure when the labeling is not extensive enough.
The Alovitox brand was thinner and lighter in color and flavor. It didn't taste very sweet at all to me. Not a bad flavor, just very mild.
The Blue Lily was the thicker and more flavorful of the two, it had a darker color and a more pronounced molasses type of flavor. Of the two, this is the one I plan to buy again.
I have been using a teaspoon worth of the Blue Lily in a cup of coffee and that is enough , whereas the Alovitox takes two or three teaspoons to make my coffee "sweet" .
As far as possible digestive issues, I haven't had any, and I suffer from IBS on the daily, one of the reasons I am going back to keto.
A bit pricey, but ultimately I would recommend this product.
