Keto White Chocolate Coconut Fat Bombs are a low-carb flavor explosion that need only 10 minutes to prepare. To make keto white chocolate, I’ve combined the divine coconut butter and MCT oil powder to delight your taste buds AND kick in some fat burning ketones.

Should I be using fat burning MCT oil?

If you’ve been eating a low-carb diet for a while, you’ve probably already discovered the fat-burning properties of MCT oils and powders.

Adding a quality MCT oil powder (from coconuts) to your diet boosts your fat intake and helps to trigger ketosis and fat burning.

I’ve personally been using MCT oils and powders for a few years now, though have recently switched to using the powder form over the oil.

I started out adding a tablespoon of MCT oil or powder to my morning bulletproof coffee and found that it gave me a distinct mental boost.

Bulletproof Coffee and coconut

I also noticed that I could have bulletproof coffee for breakfast and not need to eat a meal until lunchtime. This seemed to be because the combination of butter and MCT oil is highly satiating.

How I lost 13 pounds just by drinking bulletproof coffee

My morning ritual of bulletproof coffee for breakfast led me to lose 13 pounds (6 kilos) over a 6 month period. Sadly, I didn’t take any impressive before and after photos because I wasn’t actually expecting to lose weight!

Having said that, I had always wanted to lose those last 10 pounds after having 3 kids, and I somehow stumbled upon this secret little technique. It didn’t involve any other drastic changes to my diet, just swapping breakfast for bulletproof coffee!

I was eating a reasonably low-carb diet, but I was by no means strictly eating 20g of net carbs per day.

You gotta love a technique that helps you lose weight without really any effort on your part. Having bulletproof coffee only for breakfast is also know as fat fasting or a version of intermittent fasting.

I haven’t shared much about my experience with intermittent fasting, so let me know in the comments below if you’d like to know more.

Since discovering how powerful MCT oils are, I’ve been constantly looking for new ways to incorporate them into my diet. There are a surprising number of ways to use MCT oils and powders. Check out the list below and start trying these fat burning effects for yourself:

How to add MCT oil powder into your diet:

  1. Bulletproof coffee
  2. Fat Bombs eg. Keto White Chocolate Fat Bombs – recipe below
  3. Add to regular coffee or tea
  4. Add to low-carb green smoothies
  5. Add to whole-milk or greek yogurt with nuts, seeds, cinnamon  (see my favorite yogurt bowl below)
  6. Add to soup
  7. Baked goods – cookies, energy bars

So, what are MCT’s?

MCT oil is a medium chain triglyceride fat which just means that it is rapidly absorbed by the body and can be converted into energy immediately. It does not need to be processed in the liver before being available as an energy source for your brain and muscles

MCTs are like a quick, clean fuel that you can burn immediately. They are typically sourced from coconut oil.

How does MCT oil and MCT oil powder trigger fat burning?

MCT oil or MCT oil powder is a source of healthy fat that is fuel for your body. When you consume MCT’s, you are providing your body with a fat source that is broken down into ketones.

Ketones are an alternative source of fuel to glucose and when you make ketones, you are now burning fat.

Benefits of MCT oil and MCT oil powder

  1. Mental clarity and constant focus
  2. Fat burning triggered
  3. Enhanced energy for exercise
  4. Increases satiety which results in consuming fewer calories
  5. Less hunger, therefore less focus on food
  6. Emotional wellbeing
  7. Longevity – ketosis improves autophagy² which is a process whereby your body cleanses itself of damaged cells and toxins to make way for cell regeneration
  8. Disease prevention – the process of autophagy (above) is also thought to lead to prevention of diseases due to the reduction in inflammation

Benefits of MCT oil powder over MCT oil

  1. Gentle on the stomach – MCT oil can cause digestive upset and diarrhea if you take more than your body is used to, or if taken on an empty stomach
  2. Ease of transport – MCT oil is not ideal to carry with you if you are traveling or out and about because it may spill or leak in your bag. I have found that the bottle becomes oily with use and oil can end up all over the place.
  3. More options for cooking – as MCT oil has a low smoke point, you would typically use it for salad dressings and smoothies rather than cooking. The MCT powder can easily be added to baked recipes.
  4. Non-oily texture – when using MCT oil, the oil tends to concentrate on the top of your coffee or tea and some people find this unpleasant

My favorite brand for MCT oil powder

I am a huge fan of Perfect Keto products and in particular their MCT oil powder.

I love their products because they are developed by a doctor (Dr. Gustin). For me, this adds huge credibility, especially in the weight loss supplement market where second-rate products are all too common.

I’ve spent time getting to know the brand by trying their products, reading the in-depth posts on their website and listening to Dr Gustin’s podcast, The Keto Answers.  Trust is an important factor in choosing who I spend my money with and I am prepared to pay a little more for high quality.

It is true (usually) that you get what you pay for.

One of the things that you are getting with Perfect Keto is the confidence that they are not filling their products with junk, like maltodextrin which can have negative effects on insulin levels. I like that I know what I am putting in my body.

Perfect Keto take a stand on quality ingredients and do NOT Use fillers, soy, dairy, gluten or artificial sweeteners.

I recommend all their products, whether you’re keen to try the MCT Oil Powder, Exogenous Ketones (in chocolate sea salt!!) or Protein Collagen.

I’m thrilled to be able to offer Appetite For Energy readers 15% off any Perfect Keto products with the code INSTAKETO15.

I pay for my own Perfect Keto products but I am an affiliate. This means that I will earn a small commission if you purchase through this link, though I hope you use the code INSTAKETO15 to receive 15% off. This small contribution keeps me in coffee and ketones 🙂

Process of making Keto White Chocolate Coconut Fat Bombs - ingredients and in the mold

How to make Keto White Chocolate Fat Bombs

This recipe is about as simple as they come. Add all the ingredients (except the almonds) into a microwave safe bowl and mix well.

Microwave for around a minute to soften the mixture a little. The mixture will not become runny like some fat bombs recipes, so don’t continue to heat it to melt it. The mixture will most likely dry out.

If you don’t have a microwave, you can heat the ingredients over a gentle heat in a small saucepan.

Once the mixture is mixed and softened, use a spoon to dollop a bite-sized amount into your molds or mini-cupcake liners. I then used my fingers to press the mixture into the molds and fill in any gaps.

Pop an almond or your favorite nut on top and then place in the freezer to firm up. They will be nicely solid and ready to eat in around 20 minutes.

Can I make low-carb white chocolate fat bombs without MCT oil powder?

If you don’t have MCT oil powder, try substituting collagen powder or 1/2 cup of MCT oil.

The taste and texture is best with MCT oil powder though.

If you using MCT oil instead of powder, the mixture will be liquid after heating. Pour the mixture into your molds and freeze for 25-30 minutes. Remove from the freezer and press an almond into the top of the fat bomb. Freeze for a further 10-15 minutes until solid.

Is coconut butter similar to coconut oil?

If you haven’t tried coconut butter before, then do yourself a favor and get some! I only recently tried coconut butter (or coconut manna) for the first time and it is HEAVEN. Surprisingly, it tastes nothing like coconut oil. Coconut butter is made of dried coconut flesh.

Add it to smoothies, fat bombs, baking recipes, and it can even replace cream, cream cheese and butter.

Coconut butter is nothing like coconut oil. It has a firm texture so it can be eaten by the spoonful for a sneaky low-carb snack.

It’s also great to add to recipes like fat bombs because of it’s solid texture. It doesn’t melt on hot days like coconut oil so when you make these white chocolate fat bombs, they DON’T need to be kept in the freezer to stop them melting.

One tablespoon of this stuff has only 1g on net carbs so is a no-brainer for keto fans.

  1. Combine all ingredients except the almonds into a microwave safe bowl and mix well.

  2. Heat in the microwave on high for 1 minute. This will soften the mixture into a dough like texture. It will not become runny, so don't continue to heat beyond 1 minute.
  3. Alternatively, heat the mixture in a small saucepan over low-heat to soften.
  4. Spoon the softened mixture into mini-muffin molds (or mini-cupcake liners) and press the mixture into the molds gently with your fingers.

  5. Press an almond (or your favorite nut) into the top of each fat bomb.

  6. Place in the freezer for 20 minutes to harden.

Recipe Notes

Once hard, Keto White Chocolate Coconut Fat Bombs can be kept in the refrigerator or at room temperature.

1 serving is 2 fat bombs.

If you don't have MCT oil powder, try substituting collagen powder or 1/2 cup of MCT oil.

  1. Such an informative post!! Thank you for sharing all this information and research!! Plus, these look like delicious treats!

    • Coconut butter is often found near the coconut oil. It’s so tasty, I often eat it by the spoonful!!

    • It’s a great name isn’t it? I can’t take credit for inventing “fat bombs” but I do love them.

  2. My sister in law was on a low carb diet for quite some time. I wonder if she knows about MCT. I’ll have to ask her. Maybe it will help! Thanks so much for the lesson!

  3. I love white chocolate and for it to also give me a brain boost-well that’s a no brainer. I definitely need to make these.

  4. Yum! Just looking at this post is making me crave an Almond Joy. Better make these quick before I cave! Way healthier than a candy bar, but I’m sure just as delicious.
