Rich and comforting, Keto Chili is a family classic that can be customized for all tastes in your household, whether dairy-free, low carb or loaded with the lot! It’s a healthy chili recipe without the beans and made keto-approved.
Everyone needs an easy chili or chili con carne recipe in their family repertoire.
It’s one of those recipes, that can be pimped and tweaked for different tastes which is gold when you’re following a keto diet and the rest of your family isn’t.
Chili con carne means chili with meat and it is essentially a spicy stew with spices, meat, tomatoes and sometimes beans. Beans are high in carbs so we ditch them to keep it keto-friendly.

While tomatoes are reasonably low-carb, when we have them in large quantities they do add up. If you want to reduce the carbs down in this recipe, then swap out some of the tinned tomatoes for extra chicken broth/stock or water.

Cooking Tips & Tricks for KETO Chili Con Carne
- What to serve keto chili over? Keto chili con carne is great served over cauliflower rice or even zoodles made with zucchini or spaghetti squash.
- Toppings for keto chili: Choose from diced avocado, pico de gallo, cilantro/coriander, sliced pickled jalapenos and if not dairy sensitive, shredded cheese and sour cream
- Adapt for carb eating kids or family? Serve over regular rice, with corn chips for dipping and the usual toppings like diced avocado, shredded cheese, sour cream.
- Serve in a big bowl on the table with toppings separate so fussy eaters can customize keto chili with their favorite toppings
- Dairy-free Keto Chili – This keto chili recipe is dairy-free so to keep it that way, skip the cheese and sour cream but load up on diced avocado, cilantro, pico de gallo and pickled jalapenos for a spicy kick
- Leftovers? Any leftovers can be kept covered in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
- Freezer friendly? This easy keto chili can be frozen for a future meal.
- Reduce carbs? Most of the carbs are coming from the canned tomatoes so if you want to reduce carbs – replace some of the tinned tomatoes with water or chicken broth/stock
- Too spicy for kids? Some kids might find it a little spicy so if this is the case, reduce or omit the chili powder and the jalapeno pepper. Keep in mind that the toppings will cut through any spice once added.
- To add more spice? Don’t remove all ribs and seed from jalapeno
- For more of a smoky flavor: Half of the chili powder can be substituted with ancho chili powder
- No chicken broth or stock? Chicken broth can be subbed for vegetable broth or water

Looks great! I’ll try it! Quick question, though. Why chicken broth instead of beef broth?
Abbie Brooks
I use chicken broth because I always have it in the pantry and don’t often keep beef broth on hand. You are welcome to use either!
